Tamim was passionate about cricket from his childhood. Tamim played the U-19 world cup in 2006 at Sri Lanka stadium against Sri Lanka. After this world, Tamim was picked for the 2007 World Cup. Tamim performed very well in the 2007 world cup and for his better performance in this world cup he was selected in the Bangladesh team and he was just played two matches against Zimbabwe. Tamim played in the group stage of the match against India scoring 51 from 53 balls, and his team won the match to his help score. As his performances are well in the early matches then the Bangladesh Cricket Board granted him a one-year grade C contract, one of the 22 central contracts that were held by the board at the time, in a similar year in December.
